Agassi withdraws from Wimbledon again LONDON (AP) - Former Wimbledon champion Andre Agassi withdrew from Wimbledon on Tuesday because of an unspecified injury.
The 1992 singles champion said in a fax that he would not play in this year's tournament at the All England Club, organizers said.
Although Agassi didn't say why he was pulling out of Wimbledon, it was an inflamed sciatic nerve that rendered him helpless in the middle of his 7-5, 4-6, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-0 first-round loss to qualifier Jarkko Nieminen at the French Open last month.
"It was getting worse by the minute," said the sixth-seeded Agassi after the match. "I knew it wasn't going to be pretty after that. But I didn't want to walk off. I just didn't want to do it. And there's nothing the trainer could do."
Agassi has been enduring discomfort for months and said he considered quitting against Nieminen even when he led two sets to one, but instead played through the pain.
He left Roland Garros hopeful about Wimbledon, believing a cortisone injection would make the pain go away, but he also admitted he may be close to retiring.
The sixth-ranked American pulled out of last year's Wimbledon because of an ailing hip. Agassi has won eight Grand Slam titles, including one of each of the four majors. His last Grand Slam title came at the Australian Open in 2003.
Wimbledon is set to release its seedings for the 2005 tournament on Wednesday, and the draw is Thursday.
Agassi is married to Steffi Graf, who celebrated her 36th birthday Tuesday.
Also, Elena Bovina of Russia withdrew with a shoulder injury.

I know Chela and Zabaleta were not 100% good. Mariano Zabaleta missed Roland Garros (his favorite surface). They both have a TV program (very funny) and they talked about it. Edgardo Massa is young and rising, I don´t think he would miss the oportunity to play in the Tennis Cathedral if he had the chance. But Gastón Gaudio 3 or 4 years ago I remember the ESPN preview for Wimbledon, the sunday before the tournament starts. He sayd: I am here because they force me because my ranking, but if I could choose I would never come here. In fact he lost very easy, as always when he does not want to play.

No. 7 seed Canas, Schalken pull out WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Seventh-seeded Guillermo Canas of Argentina and three-time quarterfinalist Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands pulled out of Wimbledon on Friday.
The tournament did not immediately give reasons for the withdrawals. Both men played tuneup tournaments on grass. Canas reached the semifinals at Halle, Germany, last week, before losing to Marat Safin. Schalken lost to Davide Sanguinetti in the second round at Den Bosch, Netherlands, on Thursday.
Canas, a quarterfinalist at the French Open, was replaced in the Wimbledon field by Paul Goldstein of the United States, who lost in qualifying. With Canas out, Olivier Rochus is seeded 33rd.
Schalken's spot was taken by another loser in qualifying, Daniele Bracciali of Italy. Bracciali will face 6-foot-10 Ivo Karlovic in the first round; the winner of that match could face No. 2-seeded Andy Roddick next.

Suarez withdraws from Wimbledon Suarez reached the quarters at Wimbledon last year Argentina's Paola Suarez has withdrawn from the singles and doubles at Wimbledon because of a hip injury. Suarez and Virginia Ruano Pascual - who were runners-up at Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003 - were top seeds for the ladies' doubles. Suarez's place in the draw goes to lucky loser Melinda Czink, who will face third seed Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo in the first round. Holland's Michaela Krajicek also pulled out of the Wimbledon women's singles. Krajicek has a knee injury and her place goes to French lucky loser Severine Beltrame, who will now face Luxembourg's Claudine Schaul. Australia's Alicia Molik withdrew from Wimbledon with illness on Wednesday. The world number nine is suffering from an inner ear infection, which affects her balance and causes dizziness. The 24-year-old, a quarter-finalist at the Australian Open in January, had been suffering from the illness for more than two months. She has been told it could be another six months before she recovers.
