Black/Huber Capture Wimbledon Doubles TitleWIMBLEDON, England - In just their third Grand Slam event as a team, Cara Black and Liezel Huber are Wimbledon doubles champions. The No.2 seeded duo defeated the first-time pairing of Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo in Sunday's doubles finale, 62 61. The victory marks the second straight Wimbledon title for Black, who also captured the doubles title at the Championships last year, teaming with Rennae Stubbs. It is the first career Grand Slam title for Huber. It also marked the second straight Grand Slam final for Black and Huber, who were runner-ups to Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez at Roland Garros. The Zimbabwean and South African pair improve to 29-10 on the season after winning their second title of the season. Black and Huber dropped just 22 games in sweeping through their six matches at the All England Club. Kuznetsova and Mauresmo were playing together for the first time at Wimbledon and had a good run. They defeated NO.5 seeds Elena Likhovtseva and Vera Zvonareva in the quarterfinals and followed with a victory against No.8 seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Martina Navratilova to reach the finals. It was the first time Mauresmo had been past the quarterfinals in doubles at a Grand Slam event, while Kuznetsova won the doubles title at the Australian Open with Alicia Molik earlier this year and has been a doubles finalist in Grand Slam action four other times. Kuznetsova was scheduled to play with Molik again here at Wimbledon, but the Australian was forced to withdraw due to her ongoing inner ear infection. In the mixed doubles final, the team of Mahesh Bhupathi and Mary Pierce captured the title, defeating Paul Hanley and Tatiana Perebiynis, 64 62 in Sunday's final. It's the first career mixed doubles title for Pierce, whose previous best had been a semifinal performance (w/Luke Jensen) at the US Open back in 1995.
