Lendl becomes king of Queen's
Ivan Lendl downed Patrick Rafter in the final of the Stella Artois Championships at London's Queen's Club to take his first title of the year as the countdown to Wimbledon gets underway. Neither Lendl nor Rafter had appeared in a final this year before this tournament but the grass was obviously to their liking as they swept through the rest of the draw before competing in a fine exhibition of grass court tennis in the final. The first set was a cagey affair with both men holding serve throughout and fashioning just one break point between them. However, the American Lendl was able to sneak the tie-breaker before immediately breaking his opponent's serve at the start of the second set. It was this which won him the match as the rest of the set mimicked the first with serve prevailing throughout, and Lendl made sure of the victory when Rafter netted a return on his first match point.
