Safin Surges in Madrid
Marat Safin surged to sixth place in the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race and greatly enhanced his chances of qualifying for Tennis Masters Cup Houston when he blitzed tough Argentine David Nalbandian 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 in the final of Masters Series Madrid on Sunday. Safin displaced Tim Henman in sixth spot in the Race and, with just two weeks of the regular ATP season remaining, now seems likely to qualify for the Tennis Masters Cup for the third time in five years. Nalbandian remains in 10th spot in the Race and still has an outside chance of qualifying for Houston.
In doubles, Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada defeated Mike and Bob Bryan of the United States in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

It was not a nice match to watch, David seemed a kid and Safin played like Federer, specially when serving. Good for Marat, he deserves it, he was very happy, it was really nice to listen to him speaking in spanish ;D
David can´t win a tournament since 2002 (I think) but he keeps in the Top Ten because he is very regular, he has the best mind (concentration, etc) between the Arg Legion.

David tried to do it but Marat was too good yesterday In second set when David played short shots and got a break, Marat understood and changed his play. Then David played long shots and Marat changed again. At the end David seemed he did not want to play anymore. It was very good for David to play a tms final, but it was bad to be defeated by Marat because they are trying to enter Houston.
