Koubek suspended for failing drug testAssociated Press 22 Dec 2004 LONDON (AP) - Austrian tennis player Stefan Koubek was suspended by the International Tennis Federation for three months Wednesday after failing a drug test. Koubek tested positive for the banned substance triamcinolon acetonid during the French Open in May, the ITF said. Koubek, who finished the year ranked 60th in the world, attributed the test to an injection he received on May 15 as treatment for an injured wrist. "The doctor assured me that no prohibited substances were in the medication," Koubek wrote in his diary posted on the website www.tennisweb.at. "I sought treatment from a recognized sports physician who knows about the list of banned substances. And I even asked if the substance that he was giving me was 100 per cent safe." The ITF said it rejected his defence of no fault or negligence but accepted that there was no intent on his part to enhance performance. It also disqualified his results from the French Open and forfeited his ranking points and prize money. He reached the third round before losing to David Nalbandian of Argentina.

Isn't the point of taking a steriod to benefit from it?

Who knows? Many players have been suspended unfairly like Coria, and others really tried to take advantage, I´m sure many of them have not been detected yet.

Federer took a good rip at those who do not know what they are taking. He said they should be well aware. Speaking fo Federer, he tore someone anew one today 6-1, 6-1. Smoked, and a great way to start 2005!
