Lendl and Becker to contest Wimbledon final
The final of Wimbledon was decided today as Ivan Lendl will face-off tomorrow against Boris Becker for the title here at SW19. Lendl played to the best of his ability on his way to seeing off the in-form Andre Agassi in the first match of the day, dropping the second set in a four set triumph. Agassi will be disappointed to have lost today but will see his ranking leap to just outside the top 10 and will now head into the build up to the US Open brimming with confidence.
Lendl's opponent tomorrow, Boris Becker, had an even tougher battle against qualifier Vince Spadea, eventually coming through 7-5 in the fifth. The German has been in great form on grass over the past few weeks with just one defeat in twelve matches since Roland Garros. He will look to break the resistance of Lendl, who has simply been the man to beat in recent times having not lost a match on grass at all this year, but will be in for a tough time. Whatever the result, tomorrow's match should be fantastic, as has the Wimbledon championships as a whole.
As well as the Lendl-Becker match, there shall also be the final of the doubles event tomorrow. That match shall be between Rafter and Roddick, who defeated the French pairing Llodra and Monfils, and Agassi and Johansson, who breezed past Chiudinelli and Enqvist in straight sets.
