Last night, I thought to myself "what's missing from UFT?". I know it's pretty hard to change a pretty faultless game ( ), but there must be something, I thought to myself. Then it came to me - The Davis Cup. Then I thought again - The Hovis Cup.
Yes, the only tournament in tennis named after a bread producer - it's like the Davis Cup, only different. Instead of it being countries facing off against each other (since we don't have enough players for that) it's instead going to consist of teams of 4 players of any nationality....still with me? I'll explain some more.....
Teams of 4 players (any 4 players) meet in a Davis Cup type format - 2 sets of singles of singles and a doubles. Each team of 4 has a captain, whose name will also be the team name (i.e. Team Schuettler). The captain is also responsible for telling me which of the players will play which of the rubbers, but each of the 4 players must participate in at least ONE of the rubbers, whether it be singles or doubles. The format will look something like this:
Day 1 Singles A
Day 1 Singles B
Day 2 Doubles
Day 3 Singles C
Day 4 Singles D
The same player cannot take part in both singles matches A & B, or singles matches C & D.
Now choose your team of 4 wisely as you will not be allowed to change it at all - if one of your players leaves the game or turns out to be crap, tough luck. Also, make sure you have a mix of players in your team as the surface which the round shall be played on shall be picked totally at random by Lancelot and set of balls number 7 before the leg begins. Therefore, travel to the other forums and find the best players you can.....If your team wins 3 rubbers, they shall progress through to the next round, just like the Davis Cup.
The Hovis Cup won't be played all in one go either - it'll last the full season, with Cup matches added into the calendar.
Now, if you read all of that, well done. If you read all of that and understood all of that, even more well done. Start making your teams whenever you want - the first round of the Hovis Cup may well start next month.....
